The ZTB-4000 uses trumpet-style piston fingering while producing the range and tonal character of a tenor trombone. The .500-inch bore makes it a small-bore model suited to school ensembles, jazz, marching applications and Banda music. The three valves use the same basic fingering system as a B♭ trumpet, baritone or euphonium. However, the instrument sounds in the tenor-trombone register, one octave below a B♭ trumpet.
